“Adopt the pace of nature: her secret is patience"
Ralph Waldo Emerson
Hypnobirthing is based on the belief that, when your natural birthing instincts are allowed to play out, you can have a comfortable, calm and gentle birthing. By using special breathing techniques, deep relaxation and visualisations you can become empowered and confident in trusting that your body and your baby know how to birth intuitively.
In the modern world our view of pregnancy and birth has become distorted by negative stories, over dramatisation in the media and an assumption that the birthing of a baby will inevitably be accompanied by medical intervention. This has created a sense of fear and anxiety around birth. Hypnobirthing is a complete antenatal course that provides the tools to allow your mind to fully relax and lose this fear therefore allowing your body to let go of tension and birth more easily and more comfortably.
Hypnobirthing is about the whole journey you make with your baby. It considers the consciousness of the developing baby, the start of the bonding process and teaches you how to make your baby’s experience and start in life the best that it can be.
Hypnobirthing is supported by scientific evidence in providing a range of benefits to the mother and her baby:
• Labours where Hypnobirthing is used tend to be
shorter
• Caesarean section rates tend to be much lower and
Hypnobirthing can greatly reduce the need for
chemical painkillers and drugs
• Women report feeling more confident, relaxed, less
fearful, focused and in control, as well as recognising
the ease and comfort of labour and birth
• Hypnobirthing techniques can be used long after the
birth to support breastfeeding, general relaxation or
maintaining a sense of calm during times of stress
• Babies born using Hypnobirthing can tend to be
calmer, feed better and sleep better and experience
less trauma, because they are gently and calmly
breathed into the world at their own pace
• Babies usually have higher Agpar scores (a measure
of how well your baby is doing after the birth)
• Hypnosis has been used to assist in turning babies
with a breech presentation
• The need for episiotomy is reduced
